More recently (11/05/2019), the premiere of the musical-drama performance “Predators” based on the work of A.P. Chekhov’s “Drama on the hunt.”
A story in which boredom and prosperity, or even the triumph of nobility, push heroes into cruel manipulations, using human weaknesses and their right to power.
The goal is to have fun and no matter what the cost.
Valery Vladimirov – the director of the performance touched upon such topics that not every spectator will understand, therefore I would like to analyze these topics in this article.
“You want love, but do not want to take risks ?!”
The gypsy says these words to Zinoviev after he asked her if there was anyone in her camp, or what if his throat would be cut off while he was sleeping?
Indeed, in our time the theme of “chivalry” has long been lost. Men are ready to betray their wife for the sake of a beautiful skirt, and women, who should be an example of nobility and fidelity, are led to cheap trinkets, allowing to destroy family happiness.
“Labor is the cure for all problems”
The heroes of this performance are nobles who are bored, but only because they have nothing to do. The work is tired or so little that there is a lot of free time, and when there is a lot of free time, the human brain begins to seek entertainment, and the moral principles of the heroes are turned off immediately.
“When did you manage to stuff your head with this worldly wisdom?
It seems to be a harmless phrase by Zinoviev to Olenka, but how much sense is there. People in our time believe that they know how to live, that they know what to do, and even follow some of their own, or maybe even generally accepted moral values, which are only one thing: home, work, home. And no deviations. Travel? No, we cannot afford it. Buy a house instead of an apartment? What will others say ?!
“Someone has a long leash – will”
This phrase catches almost immediately, causing conflicting emotions in the audience. Long leash? What are they talking about? I am free! We talked with the audience of the play on this topic and this is what they say:
“The heroes have this leash, but I can do whatever I want”– says a man in a purple sweater and jeans, and his wife stands next to him, holds his arm and smiles slyly.
“We are completely unlike the heroes of this play,” say two elderly women from the last row, although even with the naked eye they can see and hear that they have little entertainment in life.
The whole performance is traced by one thought: a person is ready to step over his principles for the sake of someone else’s opinion. Fear of someone else’s opinion plays too much role in this performance, showing the viewer the whole truth of life and how silly they look when they listen to someone else’s opinion.
“You are rich, smart, young, you seemed inaccessible to me”
Often in our lives, we cannot do some act that will make us happy because of fear and fear of someone else’s opinion. At the moment, Olenka thought that she would look stupid or ridiculous in this situation, thought that if she confesses love to Zinoviev, he will certainly reject her and she will be left alone.
“Are you afraid of a scandal?” He will always be, always will be, and so what! ”
Yes, we are often afraid to make a mistake, we are afraid that they will not understand us, they will not accept us, they scold us. But if your happiness depends on it, is it worth it? It may be better not to give a damn about the scandal, but be happy?
Olenka was afraid of scandal, it was generally afraid of the opinions of others, while Zinoviev was all the same. He was ready to run away with her, but where is the guarantee that he didn’t do it just because of personal gain, because of the desire for a one-time connection to the dispute? Did he really love her? Perhaps everyone answers for himself in his own way and it is great that the director thought everything through so much that the audience leaves this performance thinking about him, not forgetting his characters.
“There are many fears in you. Fear is poison ”
We really fear a lot of things, but why? Why are they afraid, if you can live the day the way you want, if you can turn your fear so that you are not afraid.
The characters of the play have fear. This is the fear of the opinions of others, the fear of happiness, the fear of responsibility and the fear of betrayal. But is it possible to live in constant fear?
Speaking about the performance, we decided not to write our own review, but decided to interview the audience. Most surprisingly, there was not a single dissatisfied spectator, but there were those who were pricked by the vices of the heroes, and they saw themselves in them.
This sensual and passionate performance will not leave indifferent even the most callous viewer.
